Something funny she said today...

I was getting Caroline out of her swimming suit and I turned around to hang it out to dry in the bathroom. When I came back I noticed Caroline had been digging in my purse:

Susan: What are doing?
Caroline: Look Mommy! I put a sticker on my bum!
Susan: Those aren't stickers. That's a stamp on your bum.
Caroline: A stamp? You put my butt in the mail!!!!

Don't tempt me kiddo.

Why Caroline will never get the top bunk:

Ok, so I've commented on how Caroline sleeps in the craziest positions before, but David and I decided to start capturing it so we can show (embarass) her someday. Seriously, this girl must have some wacky dreams.

(Last year on our trip to visit Memphis!)

(This is my favorite. It looked like she fell asleep while kneeling for prayer!)

(She sleeps in her cousin, Jessica's, room now and one night we found her in Jessica's bed too!)

Every time we go in and check on her and she's in one of these crazy positions, she is out! We move her back into a comfortable postition without her waking the slightest! She really is a (lovable) character!

Poor Franklin. He must really take a beating every night!

Tagged - WooHoo!

It's a little silly that I'm excited to be tagged, but honestly, I've been pretty bored lately!

3 Joys:
-When Caroline gives me unprompted hugs/kisses
-When Dave really laughs, the kind of laugh that his eyes get crinkled on the sides and he can't seem to stop
-Hearing kids sing "Families Can Be Together Forever"

3 Fears:
- Getting lost in a bad part of town, alone, without a cell phone. (we actually just bought a GPS for this particular fear)
- Dave having to settle for a career he doesn't enjoy
- Caroline being an only child

3 Goals:
-Get a home of our own
-Hold a meaningful Family Home Evening tonight
- Read scriptures before reading novels
(That category was easy, Dave and I just discussed our goals last night!)

3 Current Obsessions:
- Looking at houses online
- Stephanie Meyer novels (I'm sure a "review" post is coming soon)
-Dangly earrings. (Up until this last year, I wore pearl studs every day. What was I missing!)

3 Random Facts:
-I have 2 reocurring dreams: I'm in a play/musical and I don't know my lines...and it's showtime. I'm a lifeguard again and I see a drowning victim but can't get to them.
-I have never been pulled over while driving
- I made about $600 last year by selling random stuff on ebay.
I tag Cori Lewis, Carol, and Joy.

I'm adding a new catagory for my own venting purposes:
3 Annoyances
-DVDs that don't allow you to skip straight to the menu.
-Cell phone dead zones
- Those clear plastic cases that toys and electronics come in that are dag gum near impossible to open without a sharp instrument and much frustration.

life in the last week

So far, not much has changed for us since my last post. David started working with his brother and really seems to like it! Every now and then we look up houses for sale online and drive around to find them. I don't think we are in a place right now where we could buy a house, but it's good to get to know the city and neighborhoods and find out what we like and what we don't. I've found that the more I sit around being bored, the more homesick I am, but I've been trying to get out and keep myself busy (with help from Joleen, Caroline and her cousins!) So far our favorites are making bead bracelets (thanks Courtney:) play-doh, and watching Caroline jump around in her new little plastic pool. Oh, and shopping of course (yikes!) Ok, and I finally read "Twilight". I know, I'm a little behind.
Here's what Caroline has been up to:

It was quite a feat to get this thing home from Walmart. We had to buy some rope and tie it to the roof! We always joke about what the neighbors must think of us in this ritzy neighborhood! We drive a 12 year old Maxima with a broken tail light and one of the silver M's missing from the back! I think the property value in Germantown dropped a little two weeks ago!

I found stick-on earrings on a shopping trip a while ago and Caroline loves them! She asks for a pair every day and looks at her shirt to match the color!

I can't believe July is half over! I love summer but everyone promises awesome weather in the fall so I'm excited for that. It'll be neat to see real Autumn leaves for once!

So this is Memphis!

We've been here for a week now! Wow, what do I say? Where do I begin?

Ok, the Journey:
I was sooo scared that our stuff wouldn't fit in the trailer and our car, but Dave worked his magic and it barely fit! Special thanks to our neighbors who helped us move and clean! We appreciate it! It took us two days to get here. We spent Saturday night in Abeline,TX. But not after some serious rain! I'm not talking the "oh man, it's raining" rain. I mean the "Oh my gosh, I can't see" rain. Of course, I was driving at this point! The rain was so heavy that I literally could not see the lines on the road, only the faint lights of the trailer in front of me. We were praying the whole way. I was more scared for Joleen who was pulling the trailer behind her SUV than anything. Wow, that gets me all shook up just think about it again!

But we made it safe without any other incidents.

Now, our New Home:

Jeff and Joleen and their 3 daughters (ages 7,9, and 11) live in Germantown, TN which is southeast of Memphis (it's like the distance between Mesa and Phoenix) Germantown is so beautiful! Gorgeous homes and trees everywhere! I love this area! Unfortunately, Dave and I could never afford to live here! But it's fun just to go for walks and look at all the cool houses! We are so thankful that Jeff and Joleen have let us stay here for a while. They are so generous. We have a large bedroom that even fits our couches and TV, our own bathroom, and a huge storage closet. Caroline shares a room with her cousin, Jessica who is 9. Considering we're living in someone else's house with another family, it's a pretty nice set-up!

OK, the City:

Yes, the South is humid. But honestly, (and maybe it's just been a good week) it hasn't been that bad! I think I prefer it to the 100+ temperatures I'm used to!
The traffic isn't bad at all. I've driven on the freeway several times, but so far, I've never had to slow down for traffic which is good. I have gotten lost twice, but thankfully, Jeff is just a cell-phone call away and he knows the city like none other!
Last night, I counted over a dozen mosquito bites on my legs. They LOVE me and they are everywhere!!!
But, there's also fireflies everywhere too! It's fun to go out at night and chase them. The neighbors think it's funny that we're so fascinated by them! They really are cool! They fly so slowly and they only light up for a second. So it's like seeing neon blinking lights floating in the air!

How I Feel about being here:
VERY mixed. Sometimes, I think I love it, other times I feel lonely and nervous and frustrated and antsy. I didn't feel too homesick until I saw everyone else's 4th of July celebration pictures! Now I miss my friends and family! So send me an email or something!
