Friday night we went to a Memphis Redbirds game with Brad and some friends from church. The Redbirds are our minor league team and they're stadium is the #1 minor league stadium in the country, and I have to admit - I was impressed! The weather was beautiful, the company was great, and it was an all around great night!
We went to college with Kameron and Jami Haban. They married a few months after we did. We were in the same ward as newlyweds. We went to get-togethers at each other's houses. Jami got me hooked on Modbe. They have a sweet little 2 year old boy, Kason. They were among the few that visited us in Silver City.
Kameron Haban went home to his Heavenly Father this week. He'd been fighting his Lupus in the ICU for a month. He will be sorely missed on this Earth. http://kamandjami.blogspot.com
One thing I will never forget about Kameron: he loved to cook and he was a great cook! Kameron taught me how to roll egg-rolls in our kitchen in college! He was such a nice guy - everyone loved him.
Oh one more good one. One year at EAC, Kam and his friends threw a "prom". They planned, decorated, paid for it - everything. Invitations, Dinner, Music, Dancing, The Works! Dave and I got all dressed up and had a great time and we'll never forget it. (and I wish I could find that picture!!!)
Jami is a great mother and woman. She now faces a lot of medical bills and funeral expenses, as if the grief of losing your husband isn't enough. A blog site has been set up for donations for the Haban family to help them at this time. http://habanfundraiser.blogspot.com There are so many ways to help Jami and little Kason. There is a Bank of America donation account, a paypal account, and of course, the power of prayer.
It's so sad to see friends go through this. But we know that the truth of the Gospel can lesson the pain for Kameron's family and friends.

Our sweet neighbors across the street gave Caroline this scooter that their daughter had out-grown. She LOVES it!
Before she had the scooter, Caroline would literally run alongside the other kids on our street while they rode their bikes, roller-skated, etc. It was kind of sad! So we're glad that Caroline has her own wheels now!

The Event:
Caroline was super bored and kept asking me to play with her. So we played some hide-n-seek, read some books, did some learning time, but Mom can't play ALL day. So I told her she needed to go play by herself. Caroline hates that. So I suggested she invite her animals to a tea party - then she wouldn't be alone. Instant hit!
She loved serving her guests and even "washed" the dishes when she was done!
I love hearing her talk to her toys.
The last few days have been especially rough with school starting. Caroline has a few friends in the neighborhood she plays with outside, but of course they're all in school now. Yesterday I asked if she wanted to invite someone to lunch and everyone she mentioned (except one who couldn't come) was in school! And she doesn't start kindergarten for 2 years! We're gonna need a lot more "play alone" ideas!
Get ready to roll your eyes: I'm going to brag about my kid.
Since we moved here I started taking a more active approach to Caroline's "education". We started having "learning time" for just about 15-20 mins. a day. Really I just wanted her to start recognizing letters and learn numbers. I wasn't sure if it was making any difference AT ALL until recently.
Caroline can write her own name now! I'm pretty excited about this because (I think) she's got a tougher name. Now, usually she squishes the letters together or doesn't write them in order and in a line, but I think she's got it! Caroline really likes learning time now and I'm excited to see some fruits from our labor!
I've loved seeing how her drawings have progressed. When she first started drawing what could actually be recognized as a face, it was just a lumpy oval with two eye scribbles and a wobbly line for a mouth. Little by little she's added more and now her figures usually include hair, hands and fingers. I think it's funny that when it's a girl she adds eyelashes and when it's a boy he has eye brows! I realize this is probably not nearly as interesting to anyone in the world as it is to Dave and I, but that's the case for every parent, right?! To me, these are little treasures!
Numbers need the focus now: To Caroline, 13 is always followed by 18!
